Ever wonder what not to wear to your photoshoot?

Here's your list:

LARGE CLASHING PATTERNS
EVERYONE MATCHING IDENTICALLY
  • Choose outfits that have slight color coordination , or colors that compliment each other.
  • Add small pops of color and pair some patterns, or florals with solid colors.
  • Everyone in the family does not need to wear the same color.

NEON, BRIGHT, EXTREME CONTRAST
  • Pick wardrobe colors based on your photoshoot setting. Think soft, natural, organic tones for natural locations such as wild flowers, the beach, and trees.
  • Think richer, bolder colors for urban locations such as cityscapes.
  • Try to stay away from bright primary colors and colors with extreme contrast, such as one person wearing all black and one person wearing all white.

BRAND LOGOS
  • Avoid clothing with large visible logos, wording, or characteristics.

POORLY FITTED CLOTHING
  • Dress for comfort, if you are uncomfortable in your clothes it will show.
  • Also dress in clothing that is flattering and forgiving for your body type.
  • The style and fit of your clothing should coordinate with your location. You shouldn't wear heels on the beach.

WEATHER APPROPRIATE CLOTHING
  • CHECK THE FORECAST for the day of your session!!!
  • The style of your clothing should coordinate with the weather conditions of your photoshoot. You shouldn't wear a tank top in the snow. Dress in layers accordingly.

Consider THIS:

it's best to keep the final result in mind
  • Are these photos for your holiday card, or will they be displayed in your home? Will the colors you're wearing in these photos match your home decor?

GOLDEN HOUR
  • Consider the season and time change when booking your session.
  • We all love the soft, warm glow of evening sunlight and how pretty it looks in photos. This is what we photographers refer to as golden hour and it is my most favorite time of day to complete a session. Capturing photos during this time of day utilizes the most flattering form of natural light.

PERSONALITY
  • Think about your family's personalities. Are your children easily distracted? Let's plan for a session where there will be minimal distractions, noises, or people– such as a quiet park or woodland area.

COMMUNICATION WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
  • Something you may not think about is how crucial it is to be transparent with your photographer before your session.
  • Be UPFRONT with me about your family's personalities or potential challenges. Does your significant other HATE having photos done? I can do and suggest things to help them relax and try to enjoy the session. Are your children/pets high energy? I can plan around that to make the session go as smooth as possible.
  • Inform me about any physical insecurities you or a family member may have...extra baby weight, double chin, acne, you name it. Everybody is their own worst critique. There are things I can do during the shoot to downplay those types of things. Additional retouching and editing can be done to remove blemishes.
  • Inform me about any sensory or social disorders. It's always nice to let your photographer know ahead of time as I can tailor the session for your family's comfort.

RELAX AND HAVE FUN
  • The best advice I can give my clients is to RELAX and have fun! Photoshoots don't have to be stressful. It's my job to make you look good, so sit back, enjoy this time together, and get excited to see your photos!
